NV Legislature Bill Addresses Charter School Facilities Funding Support
The NV Legislature is considering Senate Bill 256, the charter school facilities funding bill. This fill is the highest priority bill for NV charter schools. The time is now to support NV charter schools to receive facilities funding support. Sign the petition and join the movement today. Click the link here: Petition to Support SB256
SNACS pays nearly 1/3 of our per pupil funding for facilities in lease costs, capital improvement costs, and utilities. Traditional public schools receive similar funds to build new schools and improve older schools using public dollars and do not use per-pupil funds for these costs.
Charter schools are not funded equitably to our traditional public schools. This landmark legislation will change the face of NV education and allow us to provide more instruction, resources, and services for our students with funding currently allocated to charter school facilities.
The petition already has over 1,000 signatures. Governor Lombardo’s Office has received the message that facilities funding is essential for the Nevada charter community to provide equitable services for our students without being hindered by the additional costs we currently pay. Thanks to the Charter School Association of Nevada (CSAN), Dr. Regan (who is on the CSAN Board), and other CSAN representatives, are meeting next week with Governor Lombardo’s Chief of Staff, Ben Kieckhefer, to discuss the bill and the financial and instructional impact it will have for our students.
