Welcome to Mr. Squailia’s 3rd Grade Class
Hello students and Families! I am excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 3rd Grade.
This will be an exciting year!
Our main goal in 3rd grade is to be able to ask and answer questions form information of what we read. We will also develop our own opinions by backing it up with examples from a book. All of this requires us to learn how to talk and communication with each other, even if we don’t want too.
I am committed to create a classroom environment where every child is safe to make mistakes as they express and develop their own opinions. We will learn how to disagree with someone, give them examples, and express our own opinions while using our nice words.
Important Due to Covid
- We need to be proactive with the Covid-19, please be aware of the symptoms and self-screen your child before you sent them to school. If you are sick, please stay home from school.
- Social distancing is required. Masks are required and to be worn by all at all times.
- Bathrooms will not be open at any time. We will have a designative time to use them. They cannot be used at the same time and must be clean between uses.
- They must raise their hands to be dismissed to go anywhere away from their desk.
- No sharing school supplies or toys with peers.
- There is NO morning recess.
- Stead campus hours: 7:45am drop-off / start at 8:00am in classes and 2:45pm dismissal
- Parents will NOT be able to come into the office. Parents will drop their children off and the child will report directly to their teacher’s spot. You need to have ID with you as you pick up your child.
- The Van will NOT transport students between sites.
- Please make sure your child is aware and plane according.

Classroom Expectation
One day we will develop class rules at school, but some of my personal rules are:
“Use your nice words” —We can disagree and say no to someone, we can say it using nice words.
“Try your best”—I don’t care if they mess up, I care if they don’t clean it up. “Pick up after yourself.”
NO TOYS!!! 😊
Student’s Expectations
You must be able to self-screen. If you are sick, please stay home from school. You also must wear a mask at school. We cannot share items between our friends. If you miss school, you need to make up the work. You also need to know how to access all the sites utilized at our school including AR, Google Classroom, Khan Academy and epic.
Behavior System
I have a stop light system to let them know how everyone is doing. We will also have individual points, table points and class points to reinforce good behavior. I will always try to reason and give your child fresh starts. But also don’t be surprise if I give you a call. I believe children do better the more parents are involved
Curriculum
In 3rd Grade we will be focusing on asking and answering questing about what we read and know. We will focus on determining the central message and key details and how actions contribute to sequence of events. We will also expressing their own point of view in light of the discussing, stay on topic and give examples. Finally we will look at fugitive speech and idioms.
In math we will be introduce to Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Perimeter of square shapes, and the use of $.
Grades
We will start using A, B and C’s grading system; 60% = F.
Of course we will still have 4 quarters beginning Aug 24, Oct 19, Jan 4, and Mar 4.
Not every subject will be graded in every quarter.
